Referencing the near-mythical but much respected sport of Randonneuring, Brovet is an interactive guidebook to American Permanents.
Brovet successfully demonstrates that traveling at 16.3mph on the back of a bike—our average speed over the course of two years, eight states and seven permanents—is the perfect vantage from which to experience the world and your friends.

Already four hours in and desperately needing a break from all the standing water and mud-slogging, courtesy of Hurricane Sandy, we stopped at a convenience store next to the trail just before daybreak. Cole, Ty, Raffy and Moi bought a bunch of those chemical hand-warmer packs on the counter next to the 5-Hour Energy and stuffed them into their shoes and gloves. I got a hot chocolate and a coffee and constructed a mocha.
At this point, something like 1/17th of the way into this 300-mile ride-dare, everything we owned, every spare set of gloves and hats and socks and you-name-it, was soaking wet. Meanwhile, we pressed our faces against the fogged-up front window and collectively willed the outside world to warm up, a la Art Bell’s Fire The Grid Mass Consciousness Positive Focus Experiment. It didn’t warm up. In fact, if anything, it got colder, the way it often does just after the crack of dawn, which doesn’t make sense unless you know about radiant heat and science stuff like that.
